Thoolakharka, Lumlekade & Pitamdeurali area is one of the globally significant raptor migration flyway in Nepal which lies in Annapurna Conservation Area. This route is use by several thousand of raptors every year mid of September to mid of December just after the monsoon is over in Nepal. Raptors start travelling from their breeding ground Mongolia, Russia, China & Tibetan plateau to South in Middle East or even Africa following the Himalayas range of Nepal. Beacuse of its geographical location it is the only site in the world where raptor migrates from east to west direction. Also, this route is only place in the world where highest number of steppe Eagles migration can be observed during autumn season.
Eagles, Vultures, Harriers, Sparrow hawk, Falcons, Kites, Osprey, Buzzards, Honey-buzzard, Kestrel including many critically endangered and near threatened about 38 species of migrating raptor have been recorded. This site receives highest (more than 3000 mm per year) rainfall of the country. The best time to watch raptor migration is November third week to December first week.
